The Toyota Celebrity Players Cup is a sanctioned Celebrity Players Tour (CPT) event that features an exclusive format akin to the Ryder Cup, with 12-man teams (NFL, AFL, NBA, MLB, NHL & Entertainment). A Team Captain will choose twosomes from his team for 9-hole match play (worth one point per hole). The 12-man team with the most points at the end of Sunday's competition determines the Event champions. The $250,000 purse will be divided between the Team champions and Friday's Medalist champion.
The golf and event activities are held at Del Webb's Lincoln Hills Club (Map) a 6925 yard course designed by PGA's Billy Casper and architect Greg Nash, just north of Sacramento near the community of Lincoln. In 1998 and 1999, this event was held as the Joe Morgan Celebrity Golf Classic, each year raising over $300,000 for Youth Mentoring Programs, such as the Joe Morgan Youth Foundation, Project COOL, and Big Brothers & Big Sisters.
ProMax, Inc., an event management company located in Portland, Oregon is providing logistics, on-course management, and web services. ProMax provided this service to the Celebrity Players Tour at the 1998 and 1999 Joe Morgan Celebrity Golf Classic, and the 1997 Jack Wagner Celebrity Classic, in Columbia, Missouri.
