Carson Palmer is the fifth winner from USC, joining Allen (1981), Charles White (1979), O.J. Simpson (1968) and Mike Garrett (1965)...and the first USC QB to win. A 6-foot-5, 220-pound senior, Palmer completed 63 percent of his passes for 3,639 yards and 32 touchdowns with 10 interceptions this year, leading USC (10-2) to the Orange Bowl against Iowa. His Trojans ended the season rocking Notre Dame 44-13 behind his 425 passing yards and four touchdowns.
Palmer passed for 7,876 yards in three-plus seasons with 39 interceptions and 39 TD passes. USC was 26-18 in games he started. He is the 2002 Pac-10 Offensive Player of the Year and won the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award as the nation's top senior quarterback. He also threw 147 straight passes without an interception in 2002.
