1990 Ty Detmer BYU Qrtrback The 56th winner of the heisman Trophy is Ty Detmer, the 6-foot, 175-pound junior quarterback of the BYU Cougars. Ty stands first among passing greats. "If there's such a thing as a coaches dream" says BYU's head coach LaVell Edwards, "Ty's it. He is the best quarterback in the country." Against number one ranked Miami Hurricanes at Provo, Detmer passed for more than 400 yards as the Cougars registered a stunning 28-21 upset. He was even better in a 50-36 victory over Washington State. A 43-point second half, achieved largely through Detmer's heroics, brought the victory. Ty married Kim Herbet in July of 1991. Ty is currently playing for the Philadelphia Eagles.
