THE HEISMAN MEMORIAL TROPHY

1959 Billy Cannon LSU Halfback Cannon of LSU gained 598 yards rushing, averaging 4.3 yards/carry, caught 15 punts for 221 yards, returned 8 kickoffs for 191 yards, scored 7 touchdowns, and punted 44 times averaging 40.3 yards. Billy, at 6'1" and 210-pounds, went on to a distinguished NFL career with Houston, Oakland, and Kansas City. He was named All-Pro halfback with Houston and All-Pro tight end with Oakland. Billy became a dentist with his 1968 D.D.S. degree, and later a degree in orthodontia. Billy and wife Dorothy have five children and reside in Batton Rough, Louisiana, where he is currently an orthodontist.
