"Hopalong" scored 37 touchdowns in 36 games for 222 points. He gained 2466 yards rushing for 5.6 per try, and his 964 yards for 15 TDs. Howard was voted All-American during the 54 and 55 seasons, and was named Athlete of the Year in 1955 by the Associated Press. He played 8 years with the Detroit Lions, and one year each with the Browns and Eagles. He manufactured concrete pipe, then sold steel as Hopalong Cassady Associates. He is currently a scout and coach for the New York Yankees. He and wife Barbara reside in Tampa with 3 children and 4 grandkids. Elected to the NFF&C Hall of Fame in 1979.
