THE HEISMAN MEMORIAL TROPHY

1955 Howard Cassady Ohio State Halfback "Hopalong" scored 37 touchdowns in 36 games for 222 points. He gained 2466 yards rushing for 5.6 per try, and his 964 yards for 15 TDs. Howard was voted All-American during the 54 and 55 seasons, and was named Athlete of the Year in 1955 by the Associated Press. He played 8 years with the Detroit Lions, and one year each with the Browns and Eagles. He manufactured concrete pipe, then sold steel as Hopalong Cassady Associates. He is currently a scout and coach for the New York Yankees. He and wife Barbara reside in Tampa with 3 children and 4 grandkids. Elected to the NFF&C Hall of Fame in 1979.
