The Hawkeyes greatest player gained 1674 yards and in his senior year completed 31 for 638 yards, 11 for TDs. His 106 rushes neted 374 yards, and his 71 punts over 3 years netted 2834 yards (39.9 per kick). He made 11 of 17 drop kicks. In his Trophy acceptance speech "the football players of this country had rather battle for such medals as the Heisman Trophy than for such medals as the Croix de Guerre and the Iron Cross. In June, 1943, Kinnick crash landed his fighter in the sea and dissappeared forever. Elected to the NFF&C Hall of Fame in 1951.
