PORTLAND, OREGON -- SouperBowl Sunday, an annual event sponsored by the Portland Rescue Mission is in full swing in the greater Portland area. This annual fundraiser helps the Rescue Mission serve meals to the homeless throughout the year. Last year the Rescue Mission raised more than $30,000 and, at an average meal cost of $1.39, helped serve more than 21,000 meals.
The Rescue Mission also hosts a "SouperBowl" party on SuperBowl Sunday, inviting the homeless to enjoy a meal, warn shelter, and hopefully, a good football game. Last year, more than 200 attended the SouperBowl. "They had a place to go and didn't have to be outside in the cold, wet weather" said Mike Maksimowicz, director of development.
Donation is as easy as scanning a "football" donation card ($1.39) at any Albertsons store.
